1. Who are we?

Joe and Erica met a little more than a year ago at a conference on social innovation held at the United Nations in New York City.

Erica, having gone to college in Los Angeles, was excited to speak with Joe about his company and his frequent surfing, which she dearly missed now that she lived in Brooklyn (where there are indeed waves, but they aren’t the same).

Flash forward a year later, and both Erica and Joe and have moved jobs—Erica from managing digital products and writing at a traditional publisher, Joe from running business development at a startup media company…now both are happily in partnerships and product development at startups aiming to make a serious social impact and improve the world.

On a recent conference call, Erica sitting in Madison Square Park on a break between meetings, and Joe sitting in his company’s Airstream in their downtown LA loft (yeah, he wins), the two spoke about the complexity of doing business between LA and NYC.

Low and behold—they decided a short, sweet newsletter every 2 weeks might make even a little bit of a difference. A few weeks of planning, cross-country phone calls, gchats, gdocs, and learning how to hack HTML in Tumblr…and 2462 miles has landed!

Thank you for taking this journey with us to creating a more collaborative cross-country and bi-coastal environment.
